  • A trip to Gravesend was something very special and the experience of standing above the engine room on a cold night BREATHTAKING.  The smell of the coal burning and the friendly comforting heat rising  very special. We would go to Gravesend for the picture houses, a walk through the park, swimming pool and of course the Clarendon Hotel. Miss the last ferry and it was Jack Webb or Harold Thurston to row you across. Halcyon days!
