  • Hi Sandra, I also traveled on this boat in 1956 from Calcutta to Tilbury in 1956, I had the cabin on the starboard side. When we hit that storm in the Bay of Bengal, I kept to my bunk and slept right through the storm! We were in the first convoy to go through the Suez Canal. I was seventeen at that time on my way to London University. Sorry, but I don’t remember a young girl aboard. Must have been on a different voyage! Regards Peter V

  • Could you tell me please what year this picture was taken as I travelled on the City of Chester from Calcutta, India to the UK arriving at Tilbury Docks in 1956. I was 9 years old then.

If you can help thanks in advance…………..
